My Sheri Crafts Challenge #42 - Chinese New Year

Hello everyone,

This week I am the guest designer at My Sheri Crafts. I was so excited to do this project. I was able to use some paper and Cricut Pagoda cart that I had not used before. I also tried a card I've never made before: my first Tri-fold Shutter card. There are a few Utube videos giving full instructions on how to make these stunning cards. They may look intimidating but they are very easy to make. After you make your first you will be whipping them up in no time!

What was used:
Cricut Pagoda (Dragon cut at 2.5 inches, Fan cut at 2 inches)
Cricut Stand and Salute (Fireworks cut at 1.5, 2 and 2.15 inches)
DCWV Far East Mat Stack
The ribbon I had in my stash
One red bling for the eye

I know that red envelopes with money is given for Chinese new year so a really wanted to make that a part of this card. I made the pocket by hand and the piece of red paper on the front of the pocket was first embossed with a Cuttlebug Tiny Mosaic Texture folder, then embossed with glitter embossing powder.

Thanks so much to Sheri for having me be apart of the design team this week. I truly appreciate the opportunity. I hope you will visit My Sheri Crafts and take part in her challenges.

Stylish Blogger Award

Hello everyone,

I have such wonderful news! I was awarded the Stylish Blogger Award from Missy at Quick Chick Designs. Thanks so much Missy. I am so touched that you passed the award to me. There are so many other crafty ladies out there that you could have chosen.

What I have to do:
First say thank you and link back to the person who gave you the award. Then you find eight blogs that you would like to give the award to. You have to leave a comment on each recipients' blog so that they know they were awarded and that they can pass along the recognition. Finally, you tell eight things about yourself.

The eight blogs I chose in alphabetic order:
Beebeebabs Gallery
Craft Confectionery
Girlia's Cards
Handmade by Mary
Heather's This and That
The Scrapping Cat
Toni's Crafty Place
Vicki Ward

Eight things about myself:
1. I love my birthday! I was reminded yesterday when my girlfriends took me out to celebrate. I had such a blast with them.

2. I have both the Cricut Baby Bug and the Expression. I had the baby first, loved it so much I bought the Expression. I still don't want to get rid of the Baby bug though.

3. My son is diagnosed Pervasive Developmental Disorder - Not Otherwise Specified (PDD-NOS). This means that he is mildly Autistic.

4. I have three mothers: my mom, step-mom and mother-in-law. I am very close to all three.

5. I am the oldest of seven children.

6. Three of my sisters are serving in the British Army. One is now stationed in Afghanistan; we can't wait until she is home safe again.

7. I actually prefer scrapbooking to card making.

8. This one is  a little embarrassing, but I love the Twilight films and books (yes, I  know, sad!).

My Pink Stamper's First Blog Hop Challenge

It was fun hopping around to all the Pink Stamper's designers blogs. They are really talented ladies and they really got me inspired.

The Challenge was to make a project using the color pink or one of the My Pink Stamper stamps. I did both. Since valentines day is around the corner I thought I'd make something for that.

What I used:
Cricut Walk in My Garden Cart - Rose2 cut at 5.5 inches
  Cricut Georges Cart - (edited in Gypsy to 4 W x 3.65 H
My Pink Stamper's Christmas Wishes stamp set
  Cuttlebug Seeing Spots Embossing Folder
Sizzix Hearts & Dots Embossing Folder
The ribbon was a Special Value Ribbon from Michael's.
   ColorBox Charcoal ink.

I bought the ribbon (3 yards for $1) and the Sizzix Embossing folder  just yesterday and I thought I would make the card around the ribbon. So I chose the colors and image based on the ribbon. I had to use my new embossing folder too, right!

My Sheri Crafts Challenge #40 - Bling

I love bling! So I had to do this challenge. I have made a scrapbook page of my kids dancing with friends at a backyard party in the summer. The band was wonderful, the kids had a blast and so did I!

What was used:
DCWV Music Stack, Shimmer Stack and Glitter Stack.
           Recollections Rhinestones Strass
Cricut Wall Decor and More Cart: the word 'Dance' was cut at 4.5 width on the Gypsy.

Its a very simple page, but I just love all the bling around it. The title and the journaling is from the Guy Clark song 'Comes from the Heart.' They are words to live by.

"Work like you don't need the money
Love like you've never been hurt
And dance like no one is watching."

Happy Scrapping everyone!

BostonScrapFanatics have a fun and unique crop planned!

March 12th 8:00am – March 13th 8:00pm

BostonAreaScrapFanatics brings you one of the most unique and exciting scrapping adventures of our time!

A weekend-long event centered around those 'fab-u-lous' Real Housewives of New Jersey and our passion for scrapbooking.

You've seen it on the screen, now experience it in 'reality.' Our adventure begins with a day-long crop in the elegant ballroom of "The Brownstone," and it continues with an additional 25 hours of non-stop scrapping at the Totowa Holiday Inn, complete with late-night pizza from "Juicy Joes" pizzeria!

That's a total of 34 hours of Real Housewives of New Jersey fun with food, games, prizes, make and takes and on-site vendors. What's so special about this? We've lined up Posche Boutique to be on-site with teeshirts and an appearance from none other than Kim D, the Chateau Salon with manicures provided by Julie the personal choice of the Housewives, and autographed copies of The Skinny Italian.

Who does that? We do! And we offer this to you for an affordable total of $110.00.

Computer Genius Birthday Card

Its my husband's birthday. He works with computers mostly writing programs, but don't call him a Computer Scientist, he will say 'I'm an Engineer'! Here is the card I made for him.

The Computer was cut with Cricut Cursive 101 cart at 3 inches. The greeting was just printed from Word (Courier Bold). I down loaded the Linux penguin online, printed it on photo paper and cut it out by hand. The background paper with the computers came with a British Magazine; Cardmaking & Papercraft; as a bonus. I bought that magazine just for this purpose!

My Sheri Crafts Challenge #39 - Winter

I haven't played along with My Sheri Crafts for a long time. I really like her design team work for this challenge. You can find them here.

In Jamaica we don't have snowy winters that I live with now. At this time of the year the hurricane season and the hot summer months are gone. It is still warm and you can feel a nice Caribbean breeze coming off the sea, but still remember watching ice skaters at Winter Olympics on TV there and thought how graceful they were. I am a big fan of dancing and somehow ice skaters make their movements look so effortless and beautiful, not unlike dancers. I haven't even tried ice skating but maybe someday I will.

Here is my entry for this winter challenge:-
The card measures 5 1/2 X 4 1/4. I used Winter Wonderland Cart for the ice-skater, cut at 4 3/4 inches, but stretched width wise with my Gypsy just to make it a little wider.  I used my Cuttlebug for embossing folders her dress and for the snowflakes paper. The patterned paper is from Basic Grey Blush line. The 'winter wonderland' stamp is from My Pink Stamper Winter Punnies

Bling Box

My friend was moving and getting rid of a few of her things. I saw this box where she was storing old receipts and bills, she was about to get rid of it. It was sturdy, but  little banged up. I knew that those little drawers would be perfect for storing my bling! So I got my paper and gear out to alter this most wonderful box to store all my precious gems!

I had to carefully remove the drawer handles before wrapping them, then I attached the handles back to the box with gemstone brads and Zip Dry glue to make sure they were secure.

The words were done with Gypsy font and welded together then cut on chipboard and then on to DCWV glitter paper, inked and blinged! The patterned papers are a mix of DCWV Nana's Kids sheets and K & Company Amy Butler Belle sheets. The ribbon I had in my stash and the flowers are from Petaloo Daisy Box Blends, I so love their flowers!

My Pink Stamper Design Team 2011 - Challenge & Submission

This card is my submission to the  My Pink Stamper Design Team 2011 - Challenge and Submission.
Her challenge:  Make a card, scrapbook page, or other Cricut project with your favorite cartridge using her favorite colors......Pink, Green, Brown and another optional color of your choice.

I chose my favorite color Blue and hands down my favorite cart is Create a Critter.
The inspiration behind this girlie dinosaur card is my 5 year old daughter. She loves pink, is quite girlie, but loves dinosaurs, trucks and rough housing with her brother. She can also be seen walking around with a much loved (a brownie shade of pink) bunny, who she calls Pupu (finnish word for bunny).

The card is 5 1/2 x 5 1/2. The dinosaur was cut from Create a Critter at 4 inches, the bunny was cut with Paper Doll Dress Up at inches 5 inches. That poor bunny was bent and inked to make her look well-loved.

So this card is for all the girlie-tomboys out there! ROAR!

Hello Friends Card

A graduate of the high school in my town is now a US soldier serving in Afghanistan. He wrote home to his teachers and the parents in the community, that there is a school near to where he is stationed in dire need of the basic supplies that children in the US take for granted. I got together a few supplies to donate, but when I was asked to make a card to send over with the package I was quite chuffed!

The package was to be sent for Christmas but I thought since Christmas is not celebrated in Afghanistan then I would make a friendship card. This is what I came up with.

The card size was 5 1/2 X 8 1/2. I made it twice the normal size to have enough room for the teachers and kids to sign it.

I used Everyday Paperdolls and Going Places carts for the cuts. I did have to edit the shirt on the Afghan boy with my Gypsy to get it long enough and his hat was just a cap with the tip trimmed off.
The boys and clothes were cut at 4 1/2 inches, The world was cut at 3 3/4.  I embossed the American boy's sweater with the snowflakes Cuttlebug folder then inked it to make it pop.

I used Peachy Keen Everyday Character Faces Assortment stamp set for the face and Glaze White pen for the white of the eyes. I downloaded the flags from online and printed them on photo paper and attached them to toothpicks.

The 'Hello Friends' stamp was actually taken from 2 different stamp sets. 'Friends' from My Pink Stamper Punny-licious set and 'Hello' from TPC Studio-Greetings set.

Enjoy. Please feel free to email me with questions and I love comments!
